Phanom Rung is the site of a 1000 year old Hindu temple built by the Khmer Empire. We arrived on a festival day. As tourists, we prefer places that are not full of other tourists. However, nearly all the visitors were Thai and they brought with them a vibrant living presence. Families set up blankets in the shade. Kids running through the trees. Carts selling food and drink. Clusters of loners staring upwards at their kites flying high above. Inside we all milled around and through the temple grounds like ants. As you can see from the photos, I absolutely loved the stone bricks. Couldn’t get enough!
